I a brief explanation of each, maybe including 3 beliefs of each system. Most information on the Internet goes too much into depth...

Animism and Legalism are broad descriptive terms. Shinto, for instance, is a specific example of an animistic religion. Confucianism is an example of a legalistic religion. Mongolian Shamanism has elements of both types, mixed with ancestor worship. However, here's an sentiment they all share:

Confucianism:
"Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you" Analects 15:23
"Tse-Jung asked, 'Is there one word that can serve as a principle of conduct for life?' Confucius replied, 'It is the word 'shy' -- reciprocity. Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire.'"

Shinto:
"The heart of the person before you is a mirror. See there your own form"
"Be charitable to all beings, love is the representative of God." Ko-Jo-ki Hachiman Kasuga

Taoism:
"Regard your neighbor's gain as your own gain, and your neighbor's loss as your own loss." T'ai Shang Kan Ying P'ien.
"The sage has no interest of his own, but takes the interests of the people as his own. He is kind to the kind; he is also kind to the unkind: for Virtue is kind. He is faithful to the faithful; he is also faithful to the unfaithful: for Virtue is faithful." Tao Teh Ching, Chapter 49

Beyond that in the broadest possible terms, Animists believe everything is animated by spirit, everything, even what we normally consider "inanimate".

Taoism: Yo. Go with the Flow.

Legalism: Obey the laws handed down from some unimpeachable source, or deduced from the natural world.

Shinto - Uh, something about spirits, it's practiced in Japan, and it's often conjoined with Buddhism...

Animism - Worship of animals/animal spirits...I think this is mostly practiced in Africa.

I don't know much about Taoism, and I know nothing about Legalism.
