Like the Shintoists, Taoists usually select places of great natural beauty for the sites of their sacred places. Also, like the Shintoists, mountains are very popular.

Grotto-heavens are caves or underground sites, often at the top of mountains. There are 10 major Grotto-heavens and 36 minor ones in China, but ever Taoist community is expected to have access to at least one, so there are many, many more.
