The original Tao is a scientific path to attain the ultimate convergence in oneself, but because Taoist practice has so many mind cent ring, health, strength and longevity benefits, the original practice has become divided and its original function lost, just like Buddhism and every other path that has no living master. When the master is present the practice is whole and scientific and leads to the ultimate convergence in oneself, which is its entire function. When there is no living master people practice what is handed down to them by people who have interpreted what has been said from their experience and because they have no inner light of their own, the practice is incomplete and becomes corrupt. We can see this clearly in all paths that worship a dead master, Buddha, or Savior; these systems preach and teach division, because their inner core is divided and so whatever they teach and preach can never attain wholeness.
Whether a master is attached to large or small groups of people, he has an inner circle who receive the teachings directly, but if the practitioner does not attain the transmission of the lamp and the enlightenment, what this inner circle teach is incomplete and corrupt and although there are many benefits from what they practice, they can only be related to the field of the conditioned structure and cannot by their very nature lead to the unconditioned and the transcendental Tao.
Tao can only be attained through a living master. He provides the bridge to the unconditioned consciousness and gives a personal practice based on the original empowerment's to suit the individual need. That is the only way that the ultimate convergence in oneself can take place and when it does, it is always transmitted by a living master. If it is not, then the conditioned mind, which is memory and related only to the past, cannot even comprehend what it is seeking and this is the cause of all division, all speculation and all corrupt practice led by priests and politicians that have no inner light of their own.
