It's written to be puzzling. If you're not getting it, you may be closer than you think.

I don't really like that translation though as far as I can see. This one is better IMHO:

If you find someone who can explain Taoism, then you have found someone who cannot explain Taoism. He who claims to be a Taoist is not. He who makes no such claim may be a Taoist, but he may not be one. He who says he practices Taoism, does not. He who claims to know Toaism, doesn't. I cannot explain Taoism to you; you must teach yourself.

Lao Tsu stated that if one could explain it, that would not be it.

Very simply stated, we seek perfection and balance in all we do.

if you can understand the first verse you can understand everything else, TB :-) i dunno how to describe it, though..

the version you have isn't too great, try reading different sources/translations.. this is very good for you: http://www.edepot.com/taoblank.html

Taoism is the basic interplay of comparing and contrasting, the manifestation of opposites and all dimensions between this most basic Matrix. Comparing and Contrasting are necessary for Existance and Perception. This is the basic dualism of Reality. When in Motion (Space/Time) there is a Unity, and the dualism dissolves to reappear later, as all things cycle, and necessary for anything to exist. Symbology is what we use to convey concepts, and appear as sounds, language or depictions. The Yin-Yang of Taoism is the most succinct symbol of the dualism and unity of our reality and Universe. The symbol is dynamic, as it is continually moving and changing and spherical. The Taoist symbol like planets, stars and bubbles are spheres, because the sphere is the most energy efficient configuration.
