Friend, it would be best not to attempt to tap into that area, let that go and don't return to it. These things are not jokes, and it can open you up to areas that you do not want to go...be blessed!
Voodoo dolls come under the category "sympathetic magic." I wouldn't advise you to undertake this without first having studied magic and spell working, without learning to first meditate and discipline your mind.
If you're seeking to do this to harm someone, I would strongly, strongly advise against it. Sympathetic magic, even if you failed to harm someone with it, will most likely come back and backfire on you worse than what you tried to do.
If you're looking to use sympathetic magic for positive reason, such as healing, I'd advise you to look into folk magic and alternative remedies rather than attempt sympathetic magic if you have no magical training whatsoever,

Haven't you heard that what harm you do comes back threefold? Harm none.. it's the simple basis for Wicca. So if you really want to go hurt someone... sue them. It's the American way, isn't it?
Do NOT confuse Witchcraft with Voudoun. MOST Witches would tell you straight out, that to do "controlling magi ck" against any other being is giving THEM license to do the very same to you. It's against the Wiccan Rede (Wiccan laws or rules). To control someone else is doing harm to others (harm is not just physical but also emotional, spiritual and Psychic in nature) and, what ever you put out in the universe comes back on you even stronger than when you sent it out.
Practioners of Voudoun ALSO believe those things but think that they have figured out ways to avoid the repercussions of those actions. Perhaps they HAVE but, I'm not willing to find out, myself. Additionally, to practice ANY form of Magick you need to study for a LONG time. Become proficient at ALL kinds of Magick and NOT just "doll making".
As a practicing Witch for more than 30 years, I would NOT teach a beginner such as you ANY kind of Magick without FIRST teaching you the foundations of my Craft AND my Religion. The PROPER way to make such a doll is NOT freely available and ANYONE claiming to BE a witch that DOES tell you how and what to do should be immediatly be doubted. At best they're just BS'ing you and at worst, trying to rip you off of SOMETHING.
Give up on this and search deep into yourself and figure out WHY you want to control others through Magick. When you've figured that out, then work on THAT selfish flaw in your character and you'll discover that you REALY don't need to resort to such things to achieve what is TRULY is that you want to happen.Magick is a GIFT of the Goddess. As such it should be treated with utmost respect and honor and not just used as a means of entertainment or control over others.

Making a poppet (aka "voodoo doll") takes a lot of experience. You can do it, but you are going to have to commit yourself to learning proper magi ck, and that is going to take years, by which time you will have forgotten why you wanted to make it in the first place! I am a witch of over 40 years and have made many. Always for either healing or binding a couple in love (by request of both), NEVER for harm. Because something like that will come back in VERY BAD ways. Sticking a pin in to cause pain may result in you having a serious break or heart attack! I don't think you really want to go there.
Vodou is not just about magic and such. It's an ancient spiritual system with ethics and values. That said, spiritual work can be done to influence various situations. There are numerous web sites on the Internet that give some information about spiritual work and how it can be done. There are also some Yahoo Groups that spend a great deal of time discussing spiritual work. There is one that discusses the research Hyatt did with African Americans and the various "works" he documented as well as others.
