The religion is actually called voiding and is a form of traditional African worship. The name translated incorrectly to "voodoo" as Africans arrived in other parts of the world. They were able to cleverly continue their ancestral worship under the eyes of the slave owners and missionaries and Catholicism and other religions.

BTW other ethnicity's, e.g., Filipinos, Mexicans, etc. practice a form of what you call voodoo.
