Default If God was punishing Haiti for voodoo, couldn't he have been, like, more surgical abo

Like poisoning food to be eaten at a voodoo festival, rather than destroying the whole Island? That way he would have succeeded in whacking his enemies while leaving the innocent Alon, and still giving a stern warning.
no1home: Are you saying that we as humans are supposed to be more merciful and morally mature than God?

The Christian God throws temper tantrums. That's what He has always done.

Well I guess his aim has improved since hurricane Katrina, which left the French section and voodoo shops still standing.

Or he could have cursed them by forcing them to use "like" unnecessarily in between every other word.

Tom is absolutely right. We need to identify and prosecute the god that did this.

God likes to be ineffable about his smiting.

Kansas, a very religious state, gets all those tornadoes because the majority of Sweden is atheist.

Yeah, but it's not half as fun. Look at all the attention he's getting and now he gets to stand in front of a whole bunch of people and send them to hell. He loves that kinda thing.

The extent of God's punishment is shown in the garden of Eden story. Adam and Eve screwed up and were kicked out of Eden. Any other punishment of God's children is the fairy tales told by those who will lie about God in order to control and get rich off people who have not read a Bible for themselves.

If this truly is judgment from God against Haiti, then you need to realize that sin is so destructive, it not only cares about innocent victims, it actually looks to destroy innocent victims! Let's not denigrate sin to some kind of minor inconvenience or lapse in judgment. Sin is so terrible, that it wants to destroy everything good, pure, noble and innocent, along with the wicked.

As far as giving a stern warning, since I don't live in Haiti, I can't say for certain, but how do you know that God hasn't already given them half a dozen warnings on the local level, that they totally ignored and mocked, just like in the Old Testament, when God sent prophets to Israel, warning them again and again and again, and finally, in one fell swoop, He sent Israel into captivity for their sins and for ignoring all the warnings!

That is all under the conjecture IF God was judging Haiti, but I don't know. It may well be. Or it may have been natural causes.

In either case, OUR responsibility is not to judge (that's God's place), but He told US that OUR responsibility is to "feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, bring comfort to those who mourn, " etc.

Are YOU obeying God and doing YOUR part to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti? God said "Vengeance is MINE, says the Lord, I will repay." (emphasis on the words "MINE" and "I").

Well, Voodoo is actually a combination of Catholicism and the native islanders' beliefs, so they were actually worship ping him anyway.

..."God is NOT the author of disorder but of peace"... (read the Scriptures)... this World is under the control of the "prince of the power of the air" (...the devil)

Why does God allow earthquakes, tornado's, hurricanes, tsunamis, typhoons, cyclones, mudslides, and other natural disasters? Tragedies such as the 2004 tsunami in Asia, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 2008 cyclone in Myanmar, and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti cause many people to question God?s goodness. It is distressing that natural disasters are often termed ?acts of God? while no ?credit? is given to God for years, decades, or even centuries of peaceful weather. God created the whole universe and the laws of nature (Genesis 1:1). Most natural disasters are a result of these laws at work. Hurricanes, typhoons, and tornado's are the results of divergent weather patterns colliding. Earthquakes are the result of the earth?s plate structure shifting. A tsunami is caused by an underwater earthquake.

The Bible proclaims that Jesus Christ holds all of nature together (Colossians 1:16-17). Could God prevent natural disasters? Absolutely! Does God sometimes influence the weather? Yes, as we see in Deuteronomy 11:17 and James 5:17. Numbers 16:30-34 shows us that God sometimes causes natural disasters as a judgment against sin. The book of Revelation describes many events which could definitely be described as natural disasters (Revelation chapters 6, 8, and 16). Is every natural disaster a punishment from God? Absolutely not.

In much the same way that God allows evil people to commit evil acts, God allows the earth to reflect the consequences sin has had on creation. Romans 8:19-21 tells us, ?The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.? The fall of humanity into sin had effects on everything, including the world we inhabit. Everything in creation is subject to ?frustration? and ?decay.? Sin is the ultimate cause of natural disasters just as it is the cause of death, disease, and suffering.

We can understand why natural disasters occur. What we do not understand is why God allows them to occur. Why did God allow the tsunami to kill over 225,000 people in Asia? Why did God allow Hurricane Katrina to destroy the homes of thousands of people? For one thing, such events shake our confidence in this life and force us to think about eternity. Churches are usually filled after disasters as people realize how tenuous their lives really are and how life can be taken away in an instant. What we do know is this: God is good! Many amazing miracles occurred during the course of natural disasters that prevented even greater loss of life. Natural disasters cause millions of people to reevaluate their priorities in life. Hundreds of millions of dollars in aid is sent to help the people who are suffering. Christian ministries have the opportunity to help, minister, counsel, pray, and lead people to saving faith in Christ! God can, and does, bring great good out of terrible tragedies (Romans 8:28).

He didn't punish Haiti, He allowed the plates to shift and it caused many earthquakes.
