Default Did Voodoo bring down Haiti and New Orleans?

After hearing what Pat Robertson said, I was shocked at such an ignorant statement but then started to think about it. Isn't two of the most well known places for active voodoo practice New Orleans and Haiti? And when you think about the other nations where voodoo and pagan like religions seem to thrive, they are not doing well with diseases and economics are generally terrible places to live. Is all this coincidental?

Wow, that's creepy. I don't think so, but I can't answer something because nobody knows if that's really true.

Yes, it is. If you worship a deity that punishes people with starvation, disaster, and poverty for simply having a different set of beliefs, you worship a vile being.

And I don't know if you realize this, but New Orleans is fine now.

No. Nature did.

Ignorance and uneducated people are the only correlation.

Not Voodoo.

i dent believe so..its just nature and how it acts up sometimes..it can happen anywhere and it was just unfortunate that it happen to them...instead of asking why it happened to them..we should be helping them because they are human beings that need all the help that they can get..not to why their religion or what they practice had something to do with it..

Luke 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luk 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

So we ask..because we believe it is the practices of people in a society that cause destruction...But Jesus posed a question...based on the sufferings of people ...were they sinners more than others because they suffered these things? No but ..except you repent you will likewise be destroyed..We as People always have a tendency to look at the calamity of others not realizing we have to go give an account to God for ourselves...I dint have a heaven or hell to put them in...

One day I was asked by a man while I drove my 18 wheeler down the highway ministering to truck drivers on the cb radio..He said what do I think of inter-racial marriage and what do i think of homosexuals?..I prayed and my answer was along the Lines of these scriptures..If he did not have a relationship with God through Jesus..How can he condemn them..homosexuals..and If God is all knowing..don't you think that God knows inter-racial couples will create a mix of people based into their ethnicity??God can see till the end of time He is not ignorant...Then I told him and if does not get his heart right with God he is no better than the homosexual or any other he may see as being below his righteous life...He himself will go to the same place as any other sinner...of course he did not agree..but then he told me who he was...He was the grand wizard of the FL chapter KKK...

What did I think of that man then?..nothing ..but that if he does not repent he will also likewise perish..and I would tell you also ...unless you have repented..you will also likewise perish..

No, an earthquake did. Mr. Robertson should be trying to raise monies to help these people, instead of blaming voodoo for the earthquake. Pax Christi

Maybe God hates them?

Pat Robertson and other like him are the ones whom try to terrify everyone into believing the way they do. Or you are going to have the rife of God on you. It?s sad their thinking. They twist the words of the bible around. To the way they already feel and think about things. You can always fine something in the bible to back you up on about anything. I believe in a higher power that I call God. But the bible was written by a lot of men like Pat Robertson who like to have controls and pass judgment. I though it was not our job to pass judgment on others or their lifestyle. I believe everyone has the right to believe your way! No one should never be push or scared into believing you are going to hell if you don?t have the same faith as them. We are all created by something grater than we are. No I do not think any religions was reasonable.

none of the countries that were hit by the boxing day tsunami were voodoo practicing.
also, the Dominican republic practices voodoo,so i think it's just a natural disaster.

Why does God allow earthquakes, tornado's, hurricanes, tsunamis, typhoons, cyclones, mudslides, and other natural disasters? Tragedies such as the 2004 tsunami in Asia, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 2008 cyclone in Myanmar, and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti cause many people to question God?s goodness. It is distressing that natural disasters are often termed ?acts of God? while no ?credit? is given to God for years, decades, or even centuries of peaceful weather. God created the whole universe and the laws of nature (Genesis 1:1). Most natural disasters are a result of these laws at work. Hurricanes, typhoons, and tornado's are the results of divergent weather patterns colliding. Earthquakes are the result of the earth?s plate structure shifting. A tsunami is caused by an underwater earthquake.

The Bible proclaims that Jesus Christ holds all of nature together (Colossians 1:16-17). Could God prevent natural disasters? Absolutely! Does God sometimes influence the weather? Yes, as we see in Deuteronomy 11:17 and James 5:17. Numbers 16:30-34 shows us that God sometimes causes natural disasters as a judgment against sin. The book of Revelation describes many events which could definitely be described as natural disasters (Revelation chapters 6, 8, and 16). Is every natural disaster a punishment from God? Absolutely not.

In much the same way that God allows evil people to commit evil acts, God allows the earth to reflect the consequences sin has had on creation. Romans 8:19-21 tells us, ?The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.? The fall of humanity into sin had effects on everything, including the world we inhabit. Everything in creation is subject to ?frustration? and ?decay.? Sin is the ultimate cause of natural disasters just as it is the cause of death, disease, and suffering.

We can understand why natural disasters occur. What we do not understand is why God allows them to occur. Why did God allow the tsunami to kill over 225,000 people in Asia? Why did God allow Hurricane Katrina to destroy the homes of thousands of people? For one thing, such events shake our confidence in this life and force us to think about eternity. Churches are usually filled after disasters as people realize how tenuous their lives really are and how life can be taken away in an instant. What we do know is this: God is good! Many amazing miracles occurred during the course of natural disasters that prevented even greater loss of life. Natural disasters cause millions of people to reevaluate their priorities in life. Hundreds of millions of dollars in aid is sent to help the people who are suffering. Christian ministries have the opportunity to help, minister, counsel, pray, and lead people to saving faith in Christ! God can, and does, bring great good out of terrible tragedies (Romans 8:28).
