Default What are the beliefs in voodoo?

Over the years i hear things about voodoo and today i guess it sparked my...curiosity i guess. I get the very very vague, basic idea of voodoo which obviously isn't enough information. So i tried researching it and the information i found was all very confusing. So could some who knows a lot about voodoo or practices the beliefs give me an idea of what it is? Like the beliefs, practices, etc? Please no rude, stereotypical, or just plain out stupid answers. Thank you in advance

Voodoo Religion ? The History
Voodoo is a religion that was brought to the Western coasts by slaves from Africa. It is believed to have started in Haiti in 1724 as a snake cult that worshiped many spirits pertaining to daily life experiences. The practices were intermingled with many Catholic rituals and saints. It was first brought to the Louisiana area in 1804 by Cuban plantation owners who were displaced by revolution and brought their slaves with them.

Voodoo is spelled several ways: Verdun, Baudoin, voiding, VDU, and Vaduz. It is an ancient religion practiced by 80 million people worldwide and is growing in numbers. With voodoo?s countless deities, demonic possessions, animal sacrifices (human sacrifices in the Petro -- black magic form of voodoo); voodoo practitioners cannot understand why their religion is so misunderstood.

Voodoo rituals are elaborate, steeped in secret languages, spirit possessed dancing, and special diets eaten by the voodoo priests and priestesses. The ancestral dead are thought to walk among the living during the hooded dances. Touching the dancer during this spirit possessed trance is believed to be dangerous enough to kill the offender.

Talismans are bought and sold as fetishes. These could be statues representing voodoo gods, dried animal heads, or other body parts. They are sold for medicine and for the spiritual powers that these fetishes are believed to hold. The dark side of voodoo is used by participants to summon evil spirits and cast hexing spells upon adversaries.

Voodoo, Wicca, Shamanism, and Druidism are all very similar in this sense. voodoo isn't just making a doll of someone you dint like and stabbing it in the heart. its an art form, symbolically having a physical figure or item in front of you that has a better internal meaning and more productive internal meaning.

I'm a Wiccan, i keep a pocket stash of my home blend of stones, herbs, and oils, on me at all times. because you never know when you will need to use them for whenever the need arises for them in your life. Voodoo is a naturalistic and very basic form of Selective Symbolism and Energy output. Voodoo was one of the very first findings of putting human energy into an item and using it for external and spiritual means.

Shamanism, Druidism, Wicca.....all basically the same thing but evolved in different stages and wit the Dieties a tad bit differently understood. all of these follow the same rule. the "three fold rule" which is a form of karma. Whatever you Put Out, Will come back Three Fold.

its a guideline that everyone should follow and understand.
