Default I was raised Catholic, but now considering Wicca...?

Will I go to Hell? Is Witchcraft the work of the devil or is that christian dogma? go to Xanga.com/southern witches and help me out.
I do believe in God and Jesus..I have a hard time with the Bible simply b/c it has been altered by man to suit his needs over time. I dint believe in the Goddess, so I guess Wicca was the wrong word to use. And I dint think there is a book of Wicca, could be wrong. My questions are more involved than this site allows, go to my Xanga site for a more detailed question. Thank you all.

I am Wiccan and started my life as a Christian. I am not going to hell CZ as a Pagan I don't believe in Hell. There is no Devil in the Craft of practicing Witchcraft.

Consideration is good. Why follow anything without first investigating it?

Is it the work of the devil? That would be based on ones view. You should find that answer yourself.

Welcome to my world. I was also raised as catholic and I've been in Wicca like forever. I never felt catholic at all. Since I was 11 years old I would be working with magic without even know in it. It is funny because I asked myself the same question then. Today I live a life free of sin and hells LOL. Not saying that I don't mind karma though, it has hit me hard in some occasions. Today (6 years after my self-initiation) I practice Dark Neo-Paganism (witchcraft by night). I warn you that if you start you must be patient and careful, not all magi ck books are Wicca and not all vicunas think the same way. I recommend the you start by reading the following books... You may find them in the site below and/or in any bookstore.

*EARTH, AIR, FIRE, WATER by Scott Cunningham
*TEEN WITCH by Silver RavenWolf (no matter whats your age)

They provide basic information and practice. Many book will confuse you. In wicca there is no right or wrong way. Good Luck and blessed be !

I am curious about some of the answers to this question. Do you think that because you don't believe in something that it isn't real as Brigid3333 stated about there being no Devil or Hell? Does reality depend on what you believe to be true, or does it come from outside yourself . . . from a greater truth? Can you believe there is no sun and it therefore is not real? Or there is no moon and therefore it is not real? Or does all of it come down to experience or science? I am interested in the thought process of all this. I find it interesting, but not very logical. Just wondering!

Witchcraft is very, very old and completely pagan. It is not the only kind of paganism out there but, in most definitions pagan refers to any "religion" that is not Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. Those three are monotheistic, and believe in only one God. So, for example the Romans were pagan and so were the Greeks and the Egyptians at the height of their civilizations.

Most indigenous peoples of the world are also considered pagan. Native Hawaiians, Native Americans, Native Africans, etc.

That sort of sets the stage for what I really want to say. Wiccans can be very respectful of other religions, and they can be very good people but, especially if they believe in the goddess, they can't be Christian. Christians by definition believe that there is one God, as do Jews and Muslims, AND they believe that Jesus was the Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who was sacrificed for he sins of humanity to reconcile them to God, and who was raised from the dead and has returned to God. Christians also, almost universally believe in the Trinity, consisting of God, the Father, Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit who communicates with us as our advocate with the Father.

Wiccans don't believe that there is one God or that Jesus is the Christ, or that there is a Holy Spirit. Wiccans don't believe that there is a fallen Angel called Satan, or that there are places called Heaven and Hell.

You have to decide what you believe and whatever you decide to believe you have to deal with the historical reality of Jesus. Jesus was either the son of God or a raving loon. There's not much middle ground to occupy there.

Are your dreams real and meaningful? They may very well be. Are prayers to patron saints helpful? Many Catholics have believed that they are for many centuries. My own particular flavor of Christianity doesn't pray to Saints, but that doesn't mean that it is not helpful and meaningful for those who do.

Can you learn to control the Patron Saints and the power of your dreams? Probably not. If you can control them so can many others and the result of many controlling influences on one set of saints and one temporal reality is clearly chaos. Can you derive comfort and insight from spells and incantations? You have to decide that, but I think it is pretty clear that there is no real power or influence to be had.

Where many Christians have become afraid and gone wrong is in the false belief that people are bad. God doesn't believe that and neither do most intelligent people. Jews, rightly I think, describe humankind as basically good, though flawed. I think that sums us up pretty well.

I hope you can see that I have taken your question seriously and that I feel the anxiety and longing that your search is creating for you. For me, based on a lot of study and a lot of life experience, Christianity is the only answer. I believe if you search, you will find that though the way in is narrow -belief in Christ as the one and only son of the one and only God- you will find that the way opens out into a life broad enough and filled with enough love to make a place for you.

If you can spare a few minutes a day for a week or two, please read Hannah Whithall Smith's classic, available in paperback, called "The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life" before you decide. If you can't find it post a question about where to look for it and I will find it for you. It would also be helpful to read C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity." I pray that the Grace of God will open your heart and your life to all of the reality there is.

To answer your question, "Will I go to Hell?" depends on your belief in Christ.

First, Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14). In addition, Jesus statement after proclaiming that he was the way, the truth and the life was as follows: "No man comet to the Father but by me." Therefore, only if you deny Christ as being the son of God, will you go to hell.

Next, witchcraft is not of God. Therefore it must be from Satan. In Deuteronomy 18, we are forbidden to practice witchcraft for anyone who practices these things is an object of disgust to the eyes of the Lord (verses 10-12).

You can also read in Samuel that Saul was rebellious against God. Samuel told Saul that rebellion is as bad as the sin of witchcraft. (I Samuel, 15:23). If you read on, you will find Saul?s dabbling in witchcraft was not pleasing to God.

Finally, the website that you referenced states that the author believes in Christ, but not Satan or the Devil. I've always imagined that Satan likes that idea. If he can't get one to fall down and worship him, then he can accept that people believe that he doesn't exist. After all, he is the "father of all lies."

However, Satan acknowledges Christ as the Son of God. The Bible tells of the temptation in the wilderness. In addition, you can find numerous references that demons know of Christ?s power and glory. They could not rebel against Him for they knew that Christ was more powerful than them.

God has made a series of laws and commandments. Since no one could keep the laws, Jesus was sent by the Father to be the sacrifice. Christ took the sins of the world upon his shoulders so that all of the sinners may have eternal life.

A pagan religion is a religion that denies Christ as the Son of the God. In addition, the pagan religion will compromise the laws of God. If you don't like a particular law, Satan will deceive you into compromising the word of God. If you don't believe me that Satan deceives, then please read Genesis 3 (Eve with the fruit) and the temptation of Christ in the wilderness. He always ?re-arranges? the words to change the meaning.

You may be wondering if Wicca is wrong. That is a decision for you to determine. I will tell you that it is not of God and that it is not compatible with Christianity.

If you are unhappy as a Catholic, then consider another denomination (Lutheran, Episcopalian, Baptist, Methodist, etc). Although there are some subtle differences in the doctrines, all believe that Christ is the Son of God.

Read the Scriptures of the Bible. Since you were raised Catholic, then you are familiar with prayer. Pray to God that he reveals Himself to you so that you can find your way in this maze of life.

May God bless you, keep you, and may His favor shine upon you.

Wicca is a deception. There is no such thing as a white witch. All witchcraft is wrong, because it is based on controlling others or circumstances. You are being lured in, unless you are already deceived... the catholic church has failed many people....find a different church..go to a protestant one...maybe a church of god or assemblies of god...they are usually smaller, and the pastor can give you more personal attention....

You are considering turning Wicca because you don't believe the Bible is true. The entire Bible has ex histed for a little less than 2000 years. Noone has ever disproved one letter of it. Can your Wicca book match that. The Bible is completely historical true, and therefore we have no choice but to believe the rest of it.
