From what I know about it, I think its pretty strange. Ive known a couple people who practiced Wicca and they were strange people. But, to each his own. If someone wants to be into that, its their choice. Whatever floats your boat.
My friend does Wicca. I'm not even sure what the heck it is. I don't question her about it. It's her choice, but i don't condone it's practice personally.
But for what it's worth, it's a religion just like any other. Well, not "just like" any other, but it's certainly a valid one. There are a number of vicunas on YA and I respect all of the ones whose answers I've read.
As for the religion itself, I believe that all religions contain at least some truth. If Wicca is that part of the Truth that you need to hear, well go for it. I've posted a great reference for all religions in the sources--it'll tell you what you need to know.
There is a big difference. Wicca is a religion, and witchcraft is a practice. There are Wiccans who are also Witches, but there are Witches who are not Wiccan, and Wiccans who are not Witches.
I am a solitary theistic evolutionist pluralist Wiccan and practicing Witch. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to contact me through the link in my profile. Otherwise, there's a site I recommend that gives non biased information about religions and religious issues from all points of view. Try looking up "Wicca" and "witchcraft" here: http://www.religioustolerance.org/
i know it is evil and u will be worshiping the devil and it will be inviting demons in your home practicing this is not a good choice hope u make the right decision
If you allow Satan in your spirit you will suffer in the long run. Remember judgment day is yet to come but Satan is already condemned to death, want to follow Satan go ahead, free choice and the consequence of it is your choice
its the new black.
its cool and trendy, and readily available, sucking teens in left and right.
but just like any thing false, it will only give you a false and temporary sense of power. My Thoughts.
To me Jesus is the coolest and trendiest, Hes got it all beat, in beauty faith hope and love alone. But He also is Truth for a reason.
Hes never lied, and Hes never sinned.
I say discover TRUTH, put a little brain it, challenge yourself. TRUTH isn't that easy for a reason. Living according to Gods plan and receiving HIS glory here on earth, is the only faith i could ever completely trust for myself, because He has the proof and strength to back it, ALWAYS. when i have questions they are answered. when you truly seek to understand his plan, it will open itself to you.
I would "question" anything powerful that i didn't have to give something up for in return.
I think Wicca is far too commonly practiced by people who feel like getting into the field but haven't really researched it properly. There are lots of other paths of Paganism such as druidism and hedge, and these ain't looked into enough.
My parents are Pagan. I dint have a problem with it, but it's not for me.
It is a path I walk and a faith I hold. It's not evil. But often portrayed that way by those who only go by what they were taught, and have little interest in learning any thing themselves. To some, learning about Wicca, Witchcraft, Paganism, Shamanism, or any of the other pagan paths, might make them doubt their own way. If you are afraid of learning then paganism is not the right path for you. The scariest thing about being pagan is that you have to accept responsibility for what you do. You can't blame it on a devil. To help or harm, it is your choice. Being pagan is deciding to be an individual who chooses to walk their own path, not be lead by others. It is NOT following the "straight and narrow", but following your own will, however winding that may be, wherever it may lead you, at least it is by your choice and not an others. The choice is always yours.
It's the oldest religion on earth that all others came from. It is nature based. Wiccans are among the most peaceful on earth. It is NOT satanism or devil worship since we don't believe in them!
Well, I'm a pagan, but I'm not a Wiccan. I don't think there's anything wrong with Wicca in and of itself, but many people get into it as a trend, and others are into it for years but only seem to be into it for very shallow reasons. This gives Wicca a bad image and is responsible for the belief that it's just a teenage phase or something that hippies do. There are shallow and immature practitioners of all religions, Wiccans are just made fun of for it more because they are not accepted by the mainstream.
Witchcraft and Wicca are two different things, all Wiccans are witches but not all witches are Wiccans. Wicca is a particular religion with its own set of theology and ritual structure, while witchcraft is an umbrella term that can refer to various folk magic practices that can be quite different from one another.
Technically, Satan should have no power over Wiccans since they don't believe in him... he probably has a lot less power of them than he does Christians, who have to watch diligently for his influence every day. Some people who identify as witches are also Satanists, but Satanists are also a lot different from what most people think they are. I'm sure that wouldn't convince the average Christian, though.
As an aside, Wicca is not the oldest religion, nor was it practiced in all areas of the world. It's not even Prue-Christian. Actually, it was created by a guy named Gerald Gardner, who claimed ancient roots to give it more of a sense of validity. He was going for what he saw as the "feel" of old witchcraft without really looking much into the actual history of it. Anyone who's studied ancient religions can see that Wicca isn't one of them, and anyone who's studied the history of Wicca itself should know that. Many educated Wiccans do acknowledge it, so there's no shame. New religions can be just as meaningful and valid as older ones. I just wish people would stop claiming that it's ancient, because it's not. To me, it's just as bad as when Christians say things like, "Christianity is the first religion, practiced by Adam, blah blah blah." Even if you took the Bible and creationism as literal truth, you couldn't have Christianity without Christ, who was a Jew, because Jews came *first* in Biblical history. Not to go off on a tangent, I just believe that everyone should make an effort to study the real roots of their religion, no matter what that religion is.
As a Wiccan I can assure you that Wicca is not a trend nor is it new. Wicca is a pagan faith that existed long before Christianity ever did. There are no evil connotations aligned with Wicca. What the Christians refer to as the vicunas devil is actually the green man or horned god. Christianty falsely began to represent aspects of Wicca to turn the people away from their faith through a concept of fear and force. When they could not turn everyone away from it, they literally STOLE Wiccan customs so the people would follow the new faith. Christianity has absolutely no originality whatsoever. Do you know why Christians revere the Easter rabbit and color eggs? It surely has nothing to do with Jesus. Ask any Wicca and they will know what the rabbit and hare represent, for these are symbols of the Wiccan spring sabbat, Ostara. I could tell you but why don't you enlighten your soul a little and do some research. Wicca is a beautiful, spiritual religion that has far greater respect for mother earth than christianity. I have read alot of comments here that are filled with ignorance. Educate yourselves on a subject before you condemn it and label it with FALSE words. I do not practise withcraft, however my path is the way of Wicca. When you speak before you know what you speak about you walk the fools path and have only ignorance and hypocrisy as companions. Soulful blessings to all the wiccans who respond to this question and enjoy your Ostara festivities, I and my children certainly shall! Blessed Be.
For all you arrogant a**es Who Say You Know Its Evil You Don't know a damned thing. Wicca is a peace full religion based on the rule IN IT HARM NONE There is no devil in the craft
Blesses be
So to you all I'll say a little spell tonight to the lord and lady that those in darkness shall see the light open your eyes and see the truth.
I am so sorry that your question is getting bombarded by people who have not researched their topic. I am NOT pretending to know everything. However, there are a few blatant mistakes which I must point out:
First and foremost: Wiccans do not believe in Satan and therefore we can not 'worship' him. Depending on your definition of Wiccan, we can not be 'evil'. There is no such thing as a bad Witch(to me anyway, because I believe that to call yourself a Witch is to say that you are trying to be pure of heart and positive in all that you do). I also do NOT see the point in this 'whose' religion came first. Gardener did NOT invent Wicca; he only 'revitalized' it in the 1950's. He took ancient PRINCIPLES and fashioned them into guidelines that his followers could believe. One of the things that I will agree with is that Wicca is unlike many 'organized' religions because we have so many different sects (Faery, Susan, eclectic, etc.) much like Christians have the Baptists, Catholics, etc. For example, one sect believes only in the female god (goddess) while some believe in one supreme Being who is composed of a male and female which intersect with another.
Now that I am climbing off my soap box somewhat, I would also like to say that it is not only a 'teenage' and 'hippie' religion. It is a religion for those not happy of being led wherever the Bible takes us. I do NOT say this in a condescending way at all. I am trying to make the point that two people can read the Christian bible and they will get two different ideas. Not a 'schizo' and a 'normal' person but 2 average Jose/janes.
To get back to your question, I believe that everyone should have a right to choose and be respected for their choice. I look at it this way: When this country was founded, it was for religious freedom. My biggest fear is that someone will 'use' my choice of religion against me because I do NOT follow mainstream religion. If I run for office or try to get a job with the US Gov't, will they not hire me because I am different? I can only *pardon the pun* "pray to god" that in 50 years I still have the freedom to choose. It seems like our country has taken a step backward from where our forefathers wanted us. Did they not want freedom for all? Does that not mean 'do as ye will, lest it harm none'? From gun rights to abortion to religious freedom, where is our country taking us?
Being a Wiccan for the last 8 years. I think we are one of the most innovative and socially accepting religions in society today. We do not judge others for things that do not harm. So we have many members who have alternative lifestyles and lifestyles deemed evil or wrong by other churches like homosexuality and polymorphism. Contrary to popular belief, Wicca is not just a teenage fad. Estimates say that Wicca is one of the fastest growing religions in the World. Wiccans come from all races and religious backgrounds.
Our beliefs are what is called a mystery religion. We don't follow text or scripture, instead the truths of Wicca lie in the eye of the Wiccan his/herself because they must be experienced.
A big difference between Wicca and other mainstream religion is that we do not claim to have all the answers. Just a basis of faith.
