I think Christians see Wiccans so negatively because they have not bothered to research or be open to understanding the religion. Most Wiccans do believe in one Divine Being or Energy (Ali's "ONE GOD"); but instead of separating this Divinity into Father, Son, and Holy Spirit the way Christians do; Wiccans divide The Divine into a Goddess and God. Still separated in both religions, just into different ways.(Yes, SOME Wiccans continue to divide The Goddess and God into smaller Dieties, but hundreds is an exaggeration and not all Wiccan Traditions do that.)
Another sore spot towards Wiccans is the belief in Jesus being the messiah. I have met many Wiccans (myself included) who believe Christ was a real person and an amazing prophet (the way the Jewish do; is there as much discrimination against them?) and that his teachings of "love and accept each other in love without judgement" are certainly what ANY Divine Being would want for mankind. Unfortunately, most people who call themselves Christians don't follow this all imporant lesson in itself and so judge against anyone who is not Christian or even their particular sect of Christianity.
Wiccans don't believe (and CERTAINLY don't worship) the devil or demons or even in hell. In fact, it's obvious that the Wiccan rede (or law) "Harm ye none..." is extremely similar to the Christian "Do unto others..."
So, "why?" basically comes down to closed-minds, misunderstandings and an unwillingness to learn more about what they don't understand
