Default Why do Wicca questions get posted to "Mythology & Folklore" instead of here?

Questions about Islam don't get sent to "Mythology & Folklore" so why do questions about Wicca? Wicca is a religion just like any other, so why don't the questions regarding Wicca belong in the "Religion & Spirituality" category?

If you think the "Religion & Spirituality" category should have sub-categories, let me know and I will petition the Yahoo! "Powers That Be" for separate catteries.

That's an insult to Wiccans. I'm not one though...

I agree

If it's the posters who determine which categories their questions appear in, then it's a matter of ones subjectivity--not anther's prejudice.

Usually those questions have the word "Magic[k]" in them, or some other classically mythological thing [or the word, "Witch."]

There's a lot of people in here that would just tell them they're going to hell. :|

Subcategories wouldn't really help. It would just have people angrier and stroking one anther's egos more. D:

The poster chooses where they go, so the vicunas must think that their questions belong there.

Personally, I don't think Mythology should be in with folklore at all. Mythology is just religion that has lost favor, and there are at least a few people who still believe in any mythology you care to name.

That is a good question. I think because when people see the word Wicca it makes them think of witches and witchcraft and a lot of people perceive that as fantasy or myth. People don't realize that it is a religion. Maybe people should start doing some research...they would be surprised at how many people are Wiccan or Pagan...etc. and that it is truly a religion.

Religion is very wide ranged so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for them to have categories.

Can't you choose what category your questions go to? I always can when I ask questions. I like the section as it is, it would be too dull if everyone were segregated.

I agree. I would really like to see separate categories, for various reasons. For instance, there should be a Christian category, where it would be acceptable to ask questions about god while assuming they're talking about the CHRISTIAN god.

I'd like to see Pagansim as a separate category too, and atheism, both with strict rules against proselytizing.

Actually, what should be done is drop "Religion & Spirituality" and add "People of The Bible," Pagan, far eastern, Indian, and several other categories. All under Beliefs of the World.

Are you kidding? Have you SEEN how many Xians are on here? Witches can't get a word in edgewise...

At least in Folklore, which is what we usually deal with anyway, we can have answers that don't involve our beliefs being called Satanic or that we're going to Hell...

How unimaginative. And not very helpful...

I would imagine it's because Wiccans tend to draw from a variety of ancient religions that are usually referred to as "mythology" nowadays.

To tell you the truth, I have more respect for mythology than religion.

Because the people posting them think Wicca is just a myth, just as you think it's a valid religion. We all have the right to define it as we see fit. But I think you already knew that.

If you want to make a point, don't hide under the guise of a fake question. Just make your case and cut the crap.

Often they choose to post their questions in "Mythology & Folklore because they get less flak over there, for some reason.
