Does anyone know what Wiccan and witch items can be found at a grocery store? There are no local pagan stores around and I'm also new to Wicca so I need some ideas of what you can get without a local pagan store.
Wicca has often been called a religion of "stuff", but the truth is you don't need anything really. However, it helps to have certain things. I would also recommend looking on Ebay...they have some amazing things on there that you can't even find in pagan stores!
Grocery store:
Sea salt
Various herbs...especially whole herbs
candles
Thread for knot work
Wal-mart is better:
Incense
candles and candle making supplies
shells
stones
fabric-for bags and altar cloths
wax can also be used to make your pentacle - they were historically made from wax to be easily destroyed in case of discovery!
Glass etching kit - use to etch a design into a glass chalice
lots of other things can be 'made' to suit your needs
But nature is going to be your best bet.....I still have a wasp nest (air) and river rock (earth and water) that I found my first year on my altar (and a bit of candle from my initiation).
don't Deccan's eat the same type of diet that everyone else does? If you are referring to a vegan diet, lob laws has a natural value section, or if you are looking for specific herbs there is always your local health food store, or you can grow your own herbs very easily on your kitchen window sill!
lots of herbs, tho I prefer fresh whenever possible. Candles, incense, many items you can make yourself. But like the others. The Internet is a really good resource.

you can usually find fresh sage, though it is not the white sage that is commonly used. it will still work fine. just hang it out to dry.
many of the herbs and such you can find easily.
Witches had to live in secret for 1500 years, so many things that they would use in their rituals had to also be everyday household items. Wicca and witch are not the same exactly, but i think that you understand my point.
Well, technically you don't need any trapping to practice Wicca - or any form of Witch craft. You alone are enough.
Many items can be found at the store that are pertinent to Witchcraft. Such as spices and herbs, produce (which can symbolize a season, an idea anything) flowers etc. Many now even sell candles and incense - usually in the holiday or misc. aisle.
Most items that can be found at a grocery store are usually more in line with what is called folk magic, or low magic. Folk Magic is not deficient in any way - and is very powerful. You just need simple household items - every day things. It is a simple way of practicing and more in line with what was practiced for centuries.
High magic is a type of magic that has many trappings - very few that can be found at the store. Special knifes, bowls, bells, clothing, etc.
It depends on what you want to practice - and what you feel you need.
Be careful to be in a rush to cast spells or do rituals. Make sure you know your true intentions and are ready to accept the consequences of your actions. Whatever they may be, good or bad.
There are also several on line stores if you poke around a bit. You really don't need a local Pagan shop. Everything in nature is available to you - leaves, tree branches, the flowers and seeds of the earth. All of this are also at your disposal as well.
You can get candles, and some herbs (depending on your store, try the spices section and the teas), you really don't need much. You can find some stuff at a bookstore (Barnes and Nobles, the best friend of a brand new pagan). You can get special herbs on line if you want them.
The Internet really is the way to go. You can get Wiccan supplies on eBay, even, not to mention the gazillion vendors on line. Also, go to some larger festivals and check out the vendors there.
Candles, Incense, herbs-of course. Epsom salts, cotton balls, pins, string or cloth, beads-sweet almond oil to make essential oils....the possibilities are endless. Some of your ritual tools you can make yourself out of clay or wax. You can make pentacles, altar bowls, pendulum, etc.....And most of the other things you will need you can find outdoors.
Many groceries carry taper candles cheap, Lots of herbs you find fresh in the produce section, and Dried in the spice section can be used for Spellwork.
Salt can be used for Purification, cleansing and consecrating ritual tools, and to hold odd sized candles in custard cups for your spell work instead of Sand.
Sugar can be used for spells involving gossip and networking (To encourage sweet speech.)
Honey can be used to "dissolve" anger towards you.
