Default Wicca-Book of Shadows Options?

Hey, can I just use a regular notebook or journal as a Book of Shadows, like... I don't have to buy anything really fancy?

It has been a while since I've looked into that religion, but at my best recollection - yes, you can use any medium you like, including regular notebooks.

Absolutely!!!

There is really no need to have a really fancy book, especially if you either can't afford one, or are just starting out.

It's not what you use that's important, but what you put in it, and what it means to you.

Sometimes u can find nice blank books in thrift stores and consignment shops . You can glue or draw symbols on the front or inside cover like your astrological sign or something . Sea glass , sticker , small stone , isn't witchcraft a 'craft' anyway. Seems to me that its about symbolism and the symbols that mean something to you...

I use a huge three inch three ring binder. It doesn't have to be anything fancy a spiral notebook or composition notebook is fine. A 3-ring binder is usually recommended because it is not set in stone, its neater and you can add and remove pages as you wish. I choose the 3-inch so that it can grow as I do and I wont run out of room for a while, it ll be a huge grimier that's suited to my needs and no one else will have the same one.

Blessed Be.

You don't have to buy anything fancy.

Wicca is a religion... the Book of Shadows is a tool; the purpose is to record things-- like a journal-- about your spiritual journey.

I personally feel the BOS is one of the most important tools... not using it to copy down pages from Silver Ravenwolf books or things from "spells-r-us" websites, no... but when you are learning Wicca, one of the first things is learning to know yourself better, and keeping a journal and track of what you are learning and the important revelations you make and thoughts and questions you have and seeing how you grow, this is really an important part of Wicca. So having a BOS of any kind is better than not having any kind of journal at all.

Because it is a religious tool, some people like to go all out making really beautiful books with home-made herbal inks... and sure, it is a good idea to treat your religious tools as sacred, so if that means to you going out and buying a leather-bound blank tomb, be my guest. But it is not a necessity.

The journeying is what is a necessity, and a notebook is fine. You can even do it on your computer, if you like-- type it up and print it out.

Absolutely. While there is a huge market for fantasy-inspired tools, they do nothing More than reflect a person's personal preferences. it really bugs me that so many people think they have to spend a bunch of money to be a proper Wiccan. You're using your BoS to keep notes and records. Do your words somehow mean less to you if its in a spiral bound notebook? Of course not. Some people keep their BoS on a computer.

Don't be scammed by the hype and the shinnies. Buy what you find will be useful, and don't worry about appearances.

Sure! Whether its a jewel-encrusted tomb with runes all over it or a notebook that cost 50 cents, what makes it special is the fact that you pour your thoughts, learning experiences and energy into it as you go on your journey. I started with a red notebook I pulled out the basement and upgraded to a series of binders that allowed me to organize, add and discard information as I went (not a bad system to keep in mind). What works best for you is what you should go with.

That's all mine is. What matters is what you put in it.

Don't buy into these claims that you need fancy things and that you need to spend a bunch of money to do it right. It is a lie and completely impractical.
