Default A question Concerning Wicca?

I was emailed a spell by someone (I'm still just broadening my knowledge about stuff for your info) and one of the ingredients was Possum guts. would a spell that requires animal parts be a spell used by someone who believes in Wicca? Is there a humane way to get body parts of animals for spells or is any use of animal parts in spells wrong in Wicca? There was some info in the email about Wicca along with that spell so I'm just trying to get my facts straight. If you need more info from me let me know and I'll re post

No spell involves the harm of others or lives other than plants. Do not listen. It's another branch of spell craft or it wouldn't involve such. The Wiccan Rede is "Harm ye none, do as thou wilt."

We have respect & reverence for all things
This don't mean we all have to be vegetarians
It means we don't kill things haphazardly
I would be skeptical of spells that tell you that following
A recipe is going to bring about a desired outcome
That's not how it works
our rituals & rites are about empowering ourselves

First, Wicca is not about spells. Wicca is a religion.

Second, Wicca does not ban us from using animal resources. Cows are delicious.

Third, magic does not work like a recipe, despite what people on the Internet will tell you. It's just not realistic to expect to change your life by following instructions of chants and baubles. People who work magic understand magic. And once you understand it, you'll likely find no need to include animal guts.

First of all Wicca has little to do with spell work. That's Witchcraft, a separate practice.

Second, legitimate spells don't call for animal parts. I would question this person's sources of spells...in fact I'd stop using this person's spells altogether. Learn how and write your own.

No, this spell has nothing to do with Wicca. A spell with that kind of ingredient is most likely a really old spell, or patterned after a really old spell. To give you an example I purchased a book, The Black Books of Elverum, that contains two ancient handwritten books of magic, practical everyday magic, from old Norway. Old Norway as in 17Th century. It has some spells in it that use animal parts.

No Wiccan spell calls for anything from an animal that causes it pain. I have collected cat hair, and fallen whiskers, but never the guts or innards or an animal, dead or alive.

However, maybe in some Witchcraft spell, animals are required, because Witchcraft and Wicca are different.

But no Wiccan harms animals or uses animal parts that are obtained by sick or twisted means. So please don't do this spell and call yourself Wiccan. Yes, using parts this way is wrong and sick.
