Default Where do people get the idea that Wicca is just about magic you can do anything with?

so I keep noticing that there are people on here calming to be Wiccan but are asking for harmful spells or 'spells for beginners' and I want to know (from the people that are calling themselves Wiccan who believe this preferably) where are you getting your information that tells you that Wicca is just about magic? please, links or books would be very helpful because I want to understand where this huge misconception is coming from.
I know that some Wiccans practice witchcraft but they are not interchangeable and both require a lot of study. I am just trying to find any sources that say that they are interchangeable or that they don't need to study. thank you for your answers all the same though.

Because people keep claiming, that all people who practice magic, are Wiccan. This is a fallacy. People also fail to accept, that harmful spells do exist, and are used. They fail to accept, that Wicca, as it is today, is fairly modern, and that far older practices exist.

They think that all spells involve the Goddess, which, yet again, is another fallacy. They also fail to realize that Wicca, is an outright religion, and can be used without a magical aspect.
I guess, it's all of these crappy Grimoires, being released by authors of the new age movement, who see everything, with rose co loured glasses, and believe that love is the only force to be worked with.
Wicca, is not the be all, and end all for magical practice, nor is it for European paganism.

Wicca is about "Do what you will an it harm none". I would guess people are drawing off "Bewitched" or other sources of traditional views of witchcraft. Also there are people confused about the meaning of the word 'witch' (meaning wise man) thinking that if refers to women (which is sexist). I personally believe that what goes around comes around so I don't send out energy that I don't want coming back to me.

I have noticed this too about some questions people are posting. Wicca does not equal witchcraft, they are separate things. Wicca is about balance and nature. However, some not but not all Wiccans do practice witchcraft. So I would be careful to completely distance Wicca from witchcraft. I have yet to read a book on Wicca that didn't at least mention magic. That said I think some people are drawn to Wicca just because they want to be witches and practice magic. Call it Harry Potter appeal. These so called "witches" will eventually move on to something else like pretending they are vampires or something.

Silver Ravenwolf says they are the same thing.
The stupid teen fiction books "Sweep" call folk magic "Wicca."
There is a Scooby-Doo episode where "Wiccans" are mentioned in a deep way.

And then there are the people who just make crap up about Wicca for fun and profit.

It's because kids nowadays hear about magi ck and connect it to Wicca because that's how it was introduced to them although not all Wiccans are witches. It's because people who are beginners don't have a true understanding of Wicca - they're n00BS, basically, and need to do more studying and such before they truly know what they're doing.

I may be a newcomer to Wicca but even I know that Wicca isn't about magi ck. I read books about witchcraft when I was a kid, have read books about Paganism and Wicca in the past but I know Wicca is about commemorating the deities. I think they get the wrong idea about it from the media and think fictional books about Wicca are true when in fact they're just for entertainment. I also kinda blame Silver Ravenwolf because I have read one of her books and she says they're the same when I know this is false. Witchcraft and Wicca aren't the same thing. Not all vicunas practise witchcraft and not all witches are vicunas.
