Default Do you have to believe in a deity to practice Wicca?

Do you have to really believe there is a physical god and goddess? Or are they just a symbol for what Wicca stands for like Buddha for Buddhists? I would like to practice it, however I really can't force myself to believe in a 'god or goddess'.

No, of course you don't have to believe in the Goddess or the God. While several Wiccans do believe and worship them, not all do. The main force of Wicca is love of the Earth and healing and enlightenment of the Self. And the best thing about it is that it's very free and open.

Do as thou wilt and it harm none.

Blessings!

The Goddesses and Gods are a part of Wicca. If you are talking about magic than you are looking at being a Witch who does not need Deities to practice his/her craft. Wicca is a Polytheistic religion dear dating way into the past. There are groups who call themselves Wicca and say it started recently, but even most of them believe in the Deities.

No you don't have to believe in deities as personalized Gods, they are representations of the duality of life more than a God or Goddess in an immortal lovers dance , the fact that some do accept them as being real deities is down to their ignorance.
Go with the flow and follow your heart, what you seek will present itself when you are ready.

Edit, its an interesting religion, Wicca as itself started in the 20Th century although its roots are much older, it has similarities with Buddhism and Taoism.

Speaking as a Wiccan for over 20 years, I'm not sure what you think our religion is. It's a religion, a relationship with those gods that you so easily dismiss. What on earth does "a symbol for what Wicca stands for," mean?

Wicca is not doing spells, or magic, or whatever you're reading in the latest young adult fiction. It's about honoring the gods and the natural cycles of the world, and how the natural cycles of the world affect us and the gods, and vice verse.

I'm curious what it is you think you would be practicing if you remove the deities from Wicca.
