How can I be a legitimate solitary practitioner in Wicca?
I know a lot of people nowadays call themselves "Wiccan", but do not seriously practice the religion. They only say it to be "cool", among other reasons.
I don't want to title myself unjustly.
Does anybody recommend any books?
What do I need to do to distinguish myself?
What qualifications do I need? etc. Help please!
Wicca is another word for witchcraft has been practiced for thousands of years and majors in the use of magic. This is the attempt to control the behavior of nature &/or people by use of rituals, spells, hexes, voodoo etc. The effectiveness of this magic is dependent upon the use of demonic power and is condemned by the Bible. Before you get more involved in the occult I suggest you read 'From Witchcraft to Christ' by Doreen Irvine (Amazon.com).
Me personally, I'm not Wiccan. I've thoroughly explored the concept and taken some of my own ideas from it. But honestly the Wiccan religion doesn't have TOO much to it, some basic stuff that you can find on the Internet, or at Barnes & Noble, everything after what you learn in those sources should truthfully be about instinct.
Haha there are no qualifications, and if you get involved in this you should really believe, because the spiritual world is REAL. That's the only qualification, belief.
It seems to me that if you are a solitary practitioner, then you are the only one who can legitimize your practice.
Although I am not Wiccan, I have done some reading on the subject. I would recommend "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" and "Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner," both by Scott Cunningham.
The biggest problem I have with Wiccans and other "earth-worshipers" is that they spend more of their time casting spells and playing with herbs and tools than they do taking care of the planet. They claim they worship the earth, but I have met a LOT of Pagans/Wiccans and I don't know a single one who is a vegan or child-free, which are the two most effective ways to help the planet. I don't see them planting community gardens or going to beaches to clean up oil spills or pick up litter. You know what I see them doing most of the time? Shopping for Pagan jewelry or robes, reading books on how to perform awesome rituals, eating big macs and whoppers, talking about the Solstice parties or Samhain ritual they attended and how fun it was, etc. Those things are all well and good and I'm not against them (except the consuming of big macs and whoppers), but for effs sake, if you're going to claim you worship the earth, actually HELP the earth. That should be where most of your energy is directed.
