Possibly...But, why would an ORDINARY person walk around with something like THAT?...it's NOT like it's a CROSS and UNBELIEVERS wear those too... So, there very well may be a POSSIBILITY that she may NOT...Don't be SURPRISED if she IS into DEMONIC activity.
Also, Satanists don't use the upright pentagram, they use the inverted one. There is a difference, and don't confuse Witches and Satanists, please. They are usually not the same thing.
What's the difference? It's not against the law. Some types of discrimination and harassment, however, are against the law. Who cares about a necklace. People have the freedom to wear what they want to. You're not going to be able to guess much about denomination or personal belief from just a trinket without getting to know someone better.
there are many reasons to wear a pentacle. There are many interpretations of what a pentacle means. Maybe she thinks it's pretty. Maybe she thinks of it as an emblem of the five wounds of Christ. Maybe she's an authentic witch. Maybe she's confused and thinks it's "cool and darkly"... who knows... you'd have to ask her.

Neither. A symbol takes on whatever the individual puts into it. For those who practice Witchcraft, it could be their symbol, representing the four/five elements (depending on who you ask); for Wiccans theirs representing either the four elements and spirit, or representing the triple Goddes and dual God; for Satanists it could be theirs representing Satan; for Christians, it could be theirs, representing the five wounds of Christ.
Each individual places whatever meaning behind a symbol...no symbol is copyrighted to any one particular belief system.
It could. It could also mean she's into *shock value* or shops at Spencers in the mall. (The quality of the pentacle is usually a dead giveaway. A nice sterling piece costs a reasonable amount and takes a little more thought than a gaudy base metal piece.)
I have several pentacle necklaces (including an inverted one I received after my 2ND degree initiation. Inverted pentacles aren't just for Satanists.) but I rarely wear them. My coven members all have custom cast symbols of our coven protector; I tend to wear that instead, or a Dragon trickleLerom my hearthstone coven.
It all depends on the positioning of the pentacle (or pentagram). If it has one point facing upward, it is Wiccan symbol, which is the religious symbol for Witches, and a universal symbol for protection. It also represent the 5 elements: Air, Earth, Water, Fire, and Spirit. Spirit is the uppermost point on the pentacle, and a combination of all the elements the points represent.
Satanist pentagrams are depicted with one point face down. Sometimes it has the Sigil of Baphomet on it (the Sabbatic Goat).
The woman could be Christian. In Christianity's beginnings, the pentagram (upright point) was used the represent the 5 Wounds of Christ when he was crucified.
It is also possible for her to be involved with occultism (not just Witchcraft, but High Magick rather). Pentagrams are used everywhere in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and sometimes Kabbalah (I read about this).
Whatever you do, DO NOT judge this person. Wicca and Satanism are not the same things. Wicca is nature-based. That's a huge difference.
Unless the pentagram is inverted, it would be a little bit of a stretch to assume she's a Satanist, but the pentagram or pentacle are symbols often worn by witches. However, many non-witch Wiccans or other Pagans may wear pentacles and pentagrams too, so you really can't make any assumptions except that the wearer might be Pagan. It's usually best to ask rather than assume though. Most people won't get offended if you ask politely.
