I'm not Wicca, or a believer of any religion for that matter... But I have been interested in witchcraft for a while.
There is one thing I am curious about... people who are advanced in witchcraft, can they use it to increase their luck in a lottery game to win money? Most witches I know aren't really fortunate... Is it possible? If not why? And if yes, tell me your story!
No it isn't possible. NO evidence has ever been provided to even suggest that it holds any water. I encourage you to explore more reason based assumptions of the world.
I suppose you could, but most Wiccans choose not to focus on material possessions. The whole point of our path is to be more spiritual, not more materialistic.
We may do rites of prosperity, but in my opinion, it's not for wealth in money, it's for wealth in life.
I look at prosperity in rites as asking for success in my travels/goals/etc. Like one of the answerer's stated previously, if we used our craft for selfish means then we would lose connection with our Gods, which is more important to us than all the material possessions in the world.
Most Wiccans I know are not out to "fool" people out of their money, we try to incorporate our spirituality into everything that we do, if that entails opening up a successful occult shop it doesn't mean we're being selfish and trying to get one over on people. Most Christians I know aren't really fortunate, but they probably pray for a better job or more money to come their way... it doesn't mean it's going to happen. Just an example.
Witches, Wiccans, and most other Pagans don't use wealth spells unless there is a dire need for one. We are not very into the material world, but if a money emergency comes up, I don't see a problem with it.
The principles of magic don't really work that way.
There are basically 2 theories on how magic might work (for those who believe in it):
1) Magic is energy... thought and desire and emotional investment are energy... everyone who buys a lottery ticket is putting energy into it... and that is thousands/millions of people pulling it in a tug-of-war. There is too much competition... it is a long shot no matter what.
2) Magic is purely psychology, it is a powerful way to help psych your mind up to achieve a goal. In this case, you can't effect anything outside of yourself with magic... you need to cast spells that help you-- that create a self-fulfilled prophecy of sorts-- using the chants (paralinguistic programming), colors, scents, sounds, visualization, self hypnosis, etc.
Of course there are people who believe both... Either way... lottery spells are considered BS by serious practitioners.
Both schools of thought would agree that the best way to achieve goals is to focus on smaller things... getting there step-by-step. Just like you can't eat a pizza in one bite, or climb a mountain in one step, you can't send out massive life-altering energy in one spell. Magic is a boost, it helps things along, it does not make planets collide or alter reality.
Those who believe in energy would say you need to create a "channel" to a specific goal for the energy to take it's course. The less specific the goal and the less defined the channel the, the poorer your chances. A good specific goal might be getting a job, or selling a painting, or speeding up a check that is due to you. A channel would be filling out applications & submitting a perfect resume, or learning good marketing strategies for selling art, or submitting the paperwork accurately and in a timely manner... then the energy just helps draw the goal more directly to you.
Then of course, there is the psychology approach... which of course means the effects of magic are seen as internal, not expected to influence others.
Either way... it's always worked for me, when my goals are realistic and my efforts are thorough. I really don't care how it works.
Also, I don't personally buy into the whole idea of personal gain being wrong or somehow not a noble enough goal. Magic has always been for practical reasons... for personal gain. Used to be to make the crops thrive & protect the cattle... now we need cash in the bank. Same thing... the more we prosper, the better our lives. As long as it's come by honestly I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.
