how can i do this, NO not for power for other reasons. ever since I've been around it it feels like i should be doing it something weird about it, i don't know but how?? do you start reading books or is there something else i can do?
But if you REALLY want to do witchcraft, I would suggest goggling stuff and doing a bit of research. Nobody on Yahoo is going to take this seriously...
just start reading. don't take anything at face value though. you should spend several months if not a year or two reading about it before you try anything. don't focus on any one method either. the best methods are the ones that you refine for yourself.
i don't know where you live but go ogle looking for pagan/Wicca groups in your area and they will be full of ideas for you to get started. I would start reading up on witchcraft basics, the tools (pentagram, Athene (A-Thai-MAY), cauldrons, etc) as well as learning about candle colors and their meanings, incenses, essential oils and herbs, stones, and the moon phases and what they mean.
Then you'll want to research the pagan gods and goddesses. there are so many to choose from but you'll need to choose at least one god and one goddess to identify with as your primaries. Good to know things about them.
Read up about the types of magic (white, green, red, black, etc) and stay away from black magic if at all possible and NEVER EVER EVER conjure anything you don't know how to control or it will bring you serious consequences.
Abide by the Wicca Creed: Do what ye will with causing harm to NO ONE! and know that anything you send out will come back to you three fold!
Yes, you can learn a lot from reading books and such...but it also helps to have a live, experienced teacher at some point. Perhaps start studying on your own, and in about a year if you find this path suitable to you, then consider teachers. It has been said that when the student is ready, the teacher appears. You could also consider searching Yahoo groups and joining a witches group or two for a place to discuss studies and practice with others on similar paths.
Regarding the answer above mine - an interest in witchcraft doesn't automatically mean the seeker wishes to follow the religion of Wicca. Non-Wiccan witches, while many practice with a code of ethics, do not necessarily follow the Wiccan REDE or the Law of Return (Threefold Law).
Magic/witchcraft is not color coded in the sense of white/black (good/evil), which is why I recommend studying magical ethics. Dark/black simply cannot be equated with bad or evil all the time, nor can white always be equated with good. There are certainly times when darkness is healthy and necessary, which means it is not "evil". Labeling witchcraft/magic as black or white is a misnomer. Magic is energy, energy has no color, nor any intentions of its own. It is up to the witch how the energy is directed and used.
Sometimes you may hear the term "Green witchcraft" which is usually referring to the practice of herbal magic.
Also, don't get caught up in "commercialized witchcraft" thinking you need to buy a whole bunch of stuff, especially before you know whether you will actually have a use for them in your own practice. Tools are just that - tools. A letter opener could be used as an Athene, a regular pot or heat proof container can be used as a cauldron, depending on what you're using it for. The witches of old worked with what they had handy and what they could gather from nature, so think practically.
Sarah L. do you know what they say about assuming?
Read Doreen Valiente's, "An ABC of Witchcraft" and Barbara G. Walker's, "Women's Encyclopedia of Myths & Secrets " and, realize that, there is still far more to it than even they reveal. The most profound secrets are usually trivialized...and most people simply do not believe it when you tell them. Most significantly, the "legend" of the Melusine is absolutely real...and she was really an incarnation of the goddess Hera...but, as Walker quite rightly points out, the goddesses were not so separated as the patriarchal religions later claimed...so Hera was really all of the goddesses rolled into one...and she did incarnate as the Melusine in three different places in Europe. Her children were marked with signs that they were the reincarnated beasts of Hera, slain by Heracles (Hercules), most notably the Nemeian lion who incarnated as a man with a lion's paw on his cheek...complete with claws and golden fur. Hey, also read, "The Golden Ass' by Lucius Apuleius, which Valiente referred to...it is also real, not just a "legend" but it is treated as a joke! Also...Kate Maltwood was absolutely right about the artificial mounds around Glastonbury having been the island of Avalon and the rest of the archipelago...where the Lady of the Lake's lake WAS but, has been drained away...and the secret was known to Sir Thomas Malory because he was initiated into the fairy cult in France by Jacquetta duchess of Bedford...who knew Joan of Arc, successor to the priestesshood of the cult after Gilles de Rais, a male leader who had two grandmothers named Tiphaine--a French faery name. The cult had gone to France after the death of King Arthur, returned after the death of Henry V, and worked for about a century to restore Arthur's line to the English throne in 1483.

Most people think of Witchcraft, they think of shows like Charmed or movies with glamorous girls and supernatural powers...
The reality is, Witchcraft doesn't work anything like in fiction.
Real Witchcraft doesn't go against the laws of physics... it is rooted in nature and psychology. It is more subtle, very beautiful and empowering but there are no special effects.
When it comes down to it though, it mainly involves a lot of study and meditation for mental discipline.
This is what you'll be doing 100% of the time at first if you are serious about learning-- it will take months, perhaps years, before you are ready to practice.
And even when you do practice, it still involves a lot of study and meditation and it is not like in movies.
It is not the shortcut or the easy road... if you like studying and meditating you will be fine. But that's what you are in for. Lots of work.
