In Zoroastrianism are Angra Mainyu and Spenta Mainyu twins spirits created by Ahura M

I am researching about Zoroastrianism and was wondering if Angra Mainyu and Ahura Mazda were both eternal or if Ahura Mazda created the twin spirits-Spenta Mainyu and Angra Mainyu.

I always thought of them more as positive and negative thoughts or mind sets.

What ever they were the were a creation of Ahura Mazda as was all else.

They are not spirits.
Mainyu, derived from man, ?to think? with the instrumental suffix you, means ?means of thinking,? the faculty of thinking, mentality. It has been rendered as ?mentality? and ?mind.?

They are the 2 opposing mentalities, that of Spenta Mainyu and Angra Mainyu. Spenta Mainyu literally means Progressive Minded, and Angra Mainyu means regressive minded. Yes they are literally states of mind, according to Zarathushtra in the Gathas.

Spenta Mainyu, ?the progressive mentality,? is the divine faculty which actively promotes the beneficial, evolutionary development or continuous creation and maintenance of both the material and mental, physical and spiritual universe.

And No they are not created by Ahura Mazda. They are inherent.
However God chose the Force of Spenta Mainyu because God is All Good and All Loving, incapable of Harm and not to be Feared.
Spenta: derived from spi, ?to increase, to progress,? it means ?progressing? and ?progressive.? Both God and the creation are spenta. Whereas we, and the good creation, are still evolving towards wholeness, God is spenishta and spentotema, the most progressive.
