If you put the word "Zoroastrianism" into the Y' Search ____ Web Search box at the top of this page, it will yield over 2 million links to check out.

Good luck!

Probably the best way to answer this question is to point you to a link.

Dr. Winfred Corduan, professor of Philosophy and Religion at Taylor University, wrote a thoughtful article in a credible, established religious journal that should answer your question. The link is below.

EDIT for the poster below:

Be careful of Mary Boyce's book on this issue; make sure that you read counterarguments to her assertions. The fact is that to make her claims seem plausible, she had to reject EVERY single date for Zoroaster's ascension that archaeologists have ever uncovered (including ones from Zoroastrian records, validated by the astronomical information of the magi!). Her appeal to internal similarities with the Indian Vedas is specious reasoning, seemingly driven by a dedication to her own theories.

Zoroastrianism is the religion and philosophy based on the teachings ascribed to the prophet Zoroaster, after whom the religion is named. The term Zoroastrianism is, in general usage, essentially synonymous with Mazdaism, i.e. the worship of Ahura Mazda, exalted by Zoroaster as the supreme divine authority.

Zoroastrianism is uniquely important in the history of religion because of its possible formative links to both Western and Eastern religious traditions. In the opinion of Mary Boyce, as "the oldest of the revealed cradle religions", Zoroastrianism "probably had more influence on mankind directly or indirectly than any other faith".
