Zoroastrianism is the religion and philosophy based on the teachings ascribed to the prophet Zoroaster (Zarathushtra, Zartosht). Mazdaism is the religion that acknowledges the divine authority of Ahura Mazda, proclaimed by Zoroaster to be the one uncreated Creator of all (God).
As demonstrated by Zoroastrian creed and articles of faith, the two terms are effectively synonymous. In a declaration of the creed ? the Fravar?n? ? the adherent states: "?I profess myself a devotee of Mazda, a follower of Zarathustra." (Yasna 12.2, 12.8)
Zoroastrianism was the first of the revealed monotheisms. It profoundly influenced Judaism and, in turn, Christianity and Islam. Fundamental religious concepts, such as the Resurrection, appeared first in Zoroastrianism. In its native Iran, Zoroastrianism was largely displaced by Islam in the 7th century. Today it survives as a small worldwide religion with its largest center in India.
I know very little about it, I'm not going to lie. But I do know that Queen lead singer, Freddie Mercury was raised Zoroastrian. I also know that a long time ago they did not bury their dead so they wouldn't contaminate the land, and didn't cremate them so they didn't pollute the air. Pretty cool.
Some years ago I was leaning towards Zarathustra's train of thought. He taught, and I believe the first, a singular God: Ahura Mazda--God of Light. Google in his name, you'll find it very interesting.
Basically, it is a dualistic belief of having two gods: God of Good and God of Evil who will be in constant conflict with each other until the very end when the God of Good will prevail...
I believe that you can only be born into this religious sect since they don't allow conversions.
An all powerful God Ahura Mazda who is the only deity worthy of being worshiped, and
An evil spirit of violence and death, Angra Mainyu, who opposes Ahura Mazda.
The resulting cosmic conflict involves the entire universe, including humanity who is required to choose which to follow. Evil, and the Spirit of Evil, will be completely destroyed at the end of time. Dualism will come to an end and Goodness will be all in all.
